Making a new booking
  • I didn't receive a reservation confirmation email. Is my reservation confirmed?

    If you can confirm the reservation details on My Page, it means your reservation has been successfully made. If you have not received a reservation confirmation email or cannot confirm the reservation details on My Page, there might be an error in your registered email address. In that case please contact JAPANiCAN CS for help.

  • Can a reservation be made by an agent?

    Yes. The guest’s information is required in the process of reservation. Please note that even if a reservation is made by a agent, the agent (the person who made the reservation) must contact JAPANiCAN CS to confirm or cancel the reservation.

  • Guest's personal information required when making a reservation

    Lead guest’s name (same as that on passport), phone number, email address, credit card information

  • What is the child rate?

    Facilities set child rates (Child A ~ Child D) according to age and services provided.

    Child A: Children’s meal (reduced amount and number of items for adult meals), bedding provided
    Child B: Children’s meal, bedding provided
    Child C: No meals, only bedding provided
    Child D: Neither meal nor bedding, sleeping with parents
    Facilites will confirm child’s age by tallying their passport at check-in, so please choose the correct age when making a reservation for children.

  • How to make a reservation for children?

    When searching for an accommodation, please enter the number of adults and the number of children and their ages.  Once you have decided a facility, make sure to set the number of children A to D according to the child age category set by the facility for each plan.  If you register the wrong category, you may need to pay the difference in the room charge on site.

    *Please note that some facilities may have restrictions on accommodating children.

  • Can I contact Customer Support to make my booking?

    We do not accept booking requests by phone or e-mail. Please make your booking through JAPANiCAN’s website.

  • How far in advance can I make a booking?

    It is possible to book accommodations up to 365 days in advance. Please note that this may vary depending on the property or room plan you wish to book. If you are unable to make a booking for your desired dates, either the property has no openings or it is not yet accepting bookings for your desired dates. Please check the site again at a later date or make a booking for a different room type.

  • How to confirm and cancel your reservation?

    Please confirm from 「My Bookings」.

    If you made a booking without signing in, please check your record from the URL provided in the Booking Confirmation email.

  • I cannot cancel my reservation from the website. What should I do?

    Depending on the facility you have booked, you may not be able to cancel online, so please contact JAPANiCAN customer support by email or phone. If a cancellation fee is about to be incurred, please contact us by phone.

  • Amendment after booking

    As a principle, amendment to a reservation is not permitted, so please cancel your original reservation after making a new one.

  • Changing the guest name

    The guest’s name can not be changed. Please make a new reservation with the correct name, then cancel the original one.

  • How can I change the name of guests?

    It is not possible to change guests’ names.
    Please cancel the existing booking and make a new booking. Please be aware that due to real-time changes in availability, it may not be possible to make a booking with your desired changes.
    Also, please be aware that if the name on the booking differs from the name or spelling on the guest’s passport, you may be denied accommodation.

    Please inform the property directly of any changes when you check in. However, in the case that this booking will be used as a document for visa application, please cancel the existing booking and make a new booking.

  • What are required at the time of check-in?

    Passport (Re-entry permit), reservation confirmation email, cash (JPY) or internationally accepted credit card for reservations of local payment

  • What to do in case of bad weather

    First of all, please ensure your own safety. If you are unable to arrive at the facility you have reserved due to suspended public transportation, please be sure to contact the facility directly.

  • How do I book a non-smoking room?

    Room types which are non-smoking will have a non-smoking icon in the room plan information.
    Typically, ryokan (traditional Japanese-style inns) do not have specifically non-smoking rooms. These properties that only use deodorization to minimize the effect of smoke will not display the non-smoking icon.

  • What should I do if I will arrive later than the check-in time?

    If your check-in time will be later than the check-in time you indicated when you made your booking, please be sure to contact the property directly.
    If staying at a ryokan (Japanese-style inn), it is almost always necessary to check-in between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
    If you check-in after the scheduled time, it may not be possible to prepare your dinner for the day, so please plan to check-in with plenty of time to spare.
    Please note that even if your dinner is not prepared, no refunds for the accommodation fee can be offered.

  • How to reserve facilities within an accommodation

    Please contact the accommodation directly to reserve facilities that incur additional fees.

    Example: If you would like to request a paid parking lot, paid rental, surprise arrangement, etc. that require an additional fee, etc.

  • Can I drop my luggage off before check-in?

    Please contact the property directly regarding leaving your luggage before check-in.

  • Do you offer any interpretation services for contacting properties?

    JAPANiCAN.com does not provide interpreting services for contacting properties. Our apologies, but we ask you to arrange them yourself.

Payments and refunds
  • Timing of payment

    For advance payment plans, the credit card registered at the time of reservation will be charged. For on-site payment plans, please pay at the front desk at the time of check-in or check-out.

  • What is the meaning of Secure Payment?

    For pre-paid plans, we ask for your card information in order to settle the accommodation fee in advance. For local payment plans, we ask for your credit card number so that in case you cancel your reservation or do not show up, we can collect the cancellation fee on behalf of the facility as agreed upon at the time of booking.

  • What cancellation fees apply?

    The timing of cancellation fees depends on the property, room plan, and product being booked.
    JAPANiCAN includes the timing of cancellation fees on the product details page as well as the information entry page when booking propertie, so please refer to this information when making your booking.

    Please note that cancellation fees cannot be waived if the customer cancels for any personal reason.

    * Please note that both partial and complete changes to the booking may result in cancellation fees depending on the timing of the change.

  • When will my refund be processed?

    Credit or debit card refunds may take time to process.
    The exact processing time and other details depend on the credit card, so please contact your credit card company directly.
    Please be aware that the company name listed on the details of the refund will be “JAPANICAN” (slight differences may occur).

    ■ Credit card
    Our system processes refunds immediately after the booking has been cancelled.
    However, it takes at least 10 days for refund requests from Japanese credit card companies to be processed to overseas credit card companies.
    Afterward, the return of funds to your account may take up to 3 months or more depending on the terms of use of your credit card company.
    For Payment-in-Advance Plans:
    Payment Calculated in JPY: You will first be refunded the initial amount charged for the reservation. If a cancellation fee is incurred, it will be charged separately.
    In the event of cancellation, JAPANiCAN.com is not liable for any transaction or processing fees or for any difference in exchange rates between the time of booking the accommodation and the time of cancellation.

    Details depend on the card company and bank, so please contact your card company directly.

  • Changing payment method

    Payment method cannot be changed.
    please make a new reservation and then cancel the current one.

  • What fees or taxes are included in the price?

    Accommodation charges on JAPANiCAN.com include the following:
    ・ Room fee
    ・ Service fee
    ・ Consumption tax
    ・ Meal price (if included in the reservation details)

    The following are not included:
    ・ Bath tax that is charged when using a hot spring facility
    ・ Accommodation taxes charged in some cities

  • What is an "Accomodation Tax"?

    “Accommodation taxe are levied on guests staying at accommodation facilities in certain areas.
    These taxes are used to fund tourism promotion projects.
    The accommodation tax is not included in the accommodation rates indicated on the reservation site.
    Please pay directly at the accommodation facility.”

    ※The conditions for application of the taxes are determined by each municipality. For details, please check each municipality’s gazette or directly with the accommodation facility.
    ※Taxes are subject to change or be newly established without notice.
    We appreciate your understanding in advance.”
    ※Please contact the accommodation facility regarding the payment method of accommodation taxe and other taxes on site.
    ※Even if you have already paid the accommodation fee by credit card in advance, you are required to pay an accommodation tax, bath tax, etc. on site in certain areas.

  • What is a "Bath Tax"?

    A “bath tax” is a tax imposed on visitors to hot springs that provides funds for the establishment of environmental sanitation facilities, well protection management facilities, fire-fighting facilities and other necessary establishments for fire-fighting, as well as for tourism promotion and the establishment and maintenance of tourism facilities.

    Payment of this bath tax is mandatory when staying in applicable establishments with hot springs, even if you do not use the hot spring facilities. The tax is between 150 to 250 yen (depending on region) per person per night.

  • About issuing receipts?

    If you pay in advance, please contact customer support via the inquiry form after your stay.
    For local payments, please contact the property directly upon check-out.
